The Fall, 4/20 ... 2008

Talk about a rough night! My friend, M, and I decided to grill out this past Sunday. We sat outside, listening to music, and just had a grand ol’ time. Just enjoying the lovely day, you know? Well, my child, A, wanted to jump on the trampoline with M. So, M in her beautiful, spring dress put A on the trampoline. (Let me pause right here just to inform you that M weighs 95 pounds, at the most.) Meanwhile, my other child wanted to show me something inside the house. So, as we were walking into the house, I heard a whooshing type sound. I turned around very quickly to see quite the events that were about to take place. Lo and behold, M has broken the chair. Somehow, she managed to do a twist in the air, so now she is facing me. I see her drop about four feet (smiling the entire time) to the ground. The look on her face will be forever embedded in my mind.
Needless to say if you know me, I could not stop laughing. I wanted to check on her, but I just couldn’t. Meanwhile, as I was laid out on the grass laughing hysterically, A is on the trampoline looking down asking M if she was ok.
I know you can not appreciate the actual comedy in this story without living through it. Believe me, it was HE LARRY US!
Fast forward to today. M decided to go to the doctor because the bruise on her leg is the size of Texas. This is the doctor’s description/diagnosis: “Patient fell off chair and trampoline. Multiple hematomas. Legs, Arms, Back. Muscle strain – Neck.”
I asked M what was she thinking when she started to fall, twisted and saw me laughing. She said she was thinking, “I cannot believe she’s laughing. This cannot be happening. I hate you. This is really going to be funny when I finally hit the ground. I am smiling at you because I hate you. This is going to hurt. Then I hit the ground.”
She was a rock star, though. She got right back up and we continued with our night!
I’ll save the story of how she decided to drive my child’s bike down a hill for another time.
